Long Island Wine Tasting 2007

During the summer, a group of five of us decided to spend a day out on the North Fork of Eastern Long Island for some wine-tasting as part of a celebration for Alicia's boyfriend Lorenzo. The 5th person in the group was Elvira, who some of you probably already know. If you don't, I hope you get to meet her when she moves back to the city! She is a fabulous old highschool friend of Phil and Alicia. After a quick and tasty breakfast at the Forest Hills Diner, Alicia programmed "Pre-op" tranny twinkle, her faithful GPS system, and drove us out to the north folk of Long Island into the heart of their wine country. With over 30 wineries to choose from, it is an easy and fun day trip for anyone looking for something different to do! It is great fun in the fall as well, when the apples and pumpkins are ripe for picking! Go! Go! Go!

For anyone who is interested, it is a pretty easy drive, the only worry is the ever unpredictable traffic factor. Thankfully the Gods were in our favor, and we got there in about an hour and a half with no fuss at all. Along the way, a story about a recent trip for Gellato ended up serving as a launching point of a a new musical which is destined to be a sure-fire Fringe-festival hit... or at least a cult favorite! I can't tell you much about it, or I'd have to kill you, but suffice it to say, it will be a beautiful tale of how one woman's journey from small town to big city leads her to discover the finer points of life and love and finding ones true passion in life... think Steel Magnolias meets Brazilian waxing... it's going to be magic!

We spent the better part of a perfect summer afternoon visiting 5 wineries along the trail! Sherwood House Vineyards, Shinn Vineyards, Castello di Borghese Vineyards (great reds!), Vineyard 48, and Macari Vineyards (the most Napa-like of the ones we stopped at) There was a lot of good stuff to try, and we all ended up leaving that day with at least one bottle that we all enjoyed.

After a full day of fun, we head back to town and made a pit-stop at Baja Fresh to appease the Mexican Cravings of the California Natives among us! A good time was had by all!
