Mid July
On Wednesday, I had the pleasure of seeing Joan Rivers in all her glory @ The Cutting Room (NYC) with friends Rich & Alicia. If you love comedians, you will absolutely love the wacky, crazy, plastic Joan. She was truly outstanding.
On Thursday, I started drinking at around 6pm at my friend Rich's Bachelor party (For his Civil Union). My friend Thomas from Forest Hills was there as well. After about an hour I was on my way to the next musical adventure. I had the honor to see the legendary Julie Wilson @ The Metropolitan Room with my friend Chris F. from Forest Hills. Well, if you read up on the history of Julie Wilson you'll know she is roughly 83 years old and still out there performing. Although she was mostly speak singing, you can tell from her overall performance that she was outstanding in her prime. I personally loved her version of Sondheim's Ladies Who Lunch, which had a wonderful edge. Chris and I loved Ms. Wilson's pianist who's name is escaping me at the moment. It was an inspiration to Chris to start looking for gigs such as these, being the gifted pianist himself. I was happy to have the opportunity to see this show and if you love cabaret history, I encourage you to check it out.
Friday was a series of highs and lows. I was off from work at 1pm and ran over to Actor's Equity to see if there were any comps available for Broadway shows. To my surprise, La Vie (The Cirque du Soleil show for adults) was available so I grabbed the them. The show was at 11:30pm located @ the South Street Seaport Spiegelworld site so it wasn't conflicting with the my regular scheduled plans. Immediately following AEA, I had lunch at my favorite all you can eat Sushi place on 32nd St. (Todai). After 5 helpings, I wobbled back to midtown and parked ny ass at a Starbucks for a little while. Afterwards, I met up with good friend Kenneth for drinks. I invited Kenneth & a guest to see Idol: The Musical @ The 45th Street Theatre in the Theatre District. It sounded tragic, but intriguing as well. OY VEY! My beautiful boyfriend and Kenneth's date Giovanni joined us as well. Although there were a moments of uncontrollable laughter during the show, we all agreed at that the production was seriously lacking all the necessary elements to make a musical work. I will leave it at that (Inquire within). Thankfully, Shawn and I ended the evening on a positive with La Vie. Naughty, facinating, and kind of crazy. It was unbelievable. Thank God! Shawn becomes a little boy at events such as these...so adorable. :-)
